Celebrating our Seniors

Celebrating our seniors

October 2022 is Queensland Seniors Month, and we are celebrating our seniors in true Suncare style!

This year our Seniors Month celebrations tie in with the official opening of our recently renovated Suncare Community Centre at Maroochydore.

Suncare Activities Coordinators have provided a full program of events and activities designed to encourage our customers to get involved and give new experiences a go.

Celebrating social connections continues across all our Suncare locations, throughout Central and Southeast Queensland, well beyond Seniors Month. In fact our community centres and program of events and activities are an important aspect of our legacy of building community connections since 1970.

On behalf of Suncare, we thank you for you for your contributions to the Queensland community and for being part of our Suncare community.

More about Queensland Seniors Month

Queensland Seniors Month is unique to Queensland. October is dedicated to celebrating the essential role that older people play in our communities.

The 2022 Queensland Seniors Month Theme is ‘Celebrating Social Connections’ and the month will provide opportunities to promote positive community attitudes towards older people and ageing, facilitate community participation and enhance community connections.

The month incorporates the United Nations International Day of Older Persons (1 October) and celebration of National Grandparents Day on 30 October.

Council on the Ageing (COTA) Queensland coordinates Seniors Month on behalf of the Queensland Government and receives funding to collaboratively plan and subsidise events and activities. Together with the State Government, COTA values the contributions older people make in our communities… whether as volunteers, in the workforce, as community leaders or carers, grandparents and advocates.
