Aged Care Reform

A better and brighter way to deliver care

The Australian Government is making a $5.6 billion commitment to improve care and support for older Australians so that the highest quality of person centred care is available where and when you need it.

What is the Support at Home programme?

The Support at Home program is the new Australian Government initiative that will replace the Home Care Packages Program. It aims to improve aged care in Australia by providing high-quality, person-centred care for older Australians in their own homes. This is part of broader aged care reforms in response to the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety.

When will the Support at Home programme start?

The Support at Home program will replace the Home Care Packages (HCP) Program and Short Term Restorative Care (STRC) Programme from 1 July 2025.
The Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) will become part of the Support at Home program no earlier than 1 July 2027.
CHSP will continue operating as usual until it moves to Support at Home.

Will I have to pay more for my care under Support at Home?

You will be no worse off under Support at Home.
If you were already receiving a Home Care Package, on the
National Priority System or assessed as eligible for a package on
12 September 2024, You will make the same financial contributions, or lower, than you would under the Home Care Packages Program.

I currently have a Home Care Package (HCP) will my services change when I move to Support at Home?

If you are currently receiving a Home Care Package, you will move to Support at Home on 1 July 2025 and keep receiving care through Suncare.

Will my funding stay the same under Support at Home?

Yes, if you currently receive a Home Care Package, you will keep the same level of funding when you move to Support at Home. You will receive a quarterly (3-monthly) budget based on your assessed needs.
