Heatbeat program

Heartbeat is our free community wellbeing program, open to everyone, not just Suncare customers. From gentle exercise classes and art workshops to coffee catch-ups and tech help sessions, Heartbeat brings people together in local spaces across Queensland. Because staying connected should not depend on having a care plan.

Looking after someone you love?

If you are researching aged care services for a parent, partner or someone close to you, we understand how overwhelming it can feel.

The paperwork, the phone calls, the guilt of wondering whether you are doing enough.

You do not have to figure it all out on your own.

Our team can walk you through what is available, help you understand your funding options, and take care of the coordination so you can get back to being a daughter, a son, a partner, not a full-time carer.

How to get started with Suncare

At Suncare, we know navigating the aged care system can feel overwhelming. That’s why we’re here to guide you through the steps - so you can get the support you need, right where you live.

Step 1

Get in touch

Give us a call on 1800 786 227 or fill in our online form. We will listen, answer your questions, and help you understand your options.

Step 2

Build your plan together

We will sit down with you (or your family) and design a support plan that fits your life, your goals and your budget.

Step 3

Meet your care partner

You will be matched with a Suncare Care Partner who gets to know you as a person, not just a care plan.

Step 4

Start your support

We will schedule your services and take care of everything behind the scenes, so your support starts smoothly.

Step 5

Check in and adjust

Your needs might change, and that is okay. We stay in regular contact and adjust your support whenever you need us to.

Understanding your funding

Most of our services are funded through government programs, which means you may pay little or nothing out of pocket. Here is a quick overview of how it works.

Support at Home program

The Support at Home program provides ongoing, government-funded support for older Australians with assessed care needs.

Your level is determined through an assessment arranged by My Aged Care.

Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP)

CHSP provides entry-level support if you need a smaller amount of help at home. Services include domestic assistance, social support and respite, transport and meals. You will usually pay a small contribution towards the cost.

Fee for service (private pay)

If you are waiting for government funding, want additional services, or prefer to arrange support privately, you can access our services on a fee-for-service basis. View our pricing guide for details.

Our approach to care

At Suncare, we take the time to get to know you, not just your care needs. We have been part of Queensland communities since 1970, and in that time we have learned that good care starts with genuine connection.

Our model of care is built on trust, respect and the belief that you should always be in the driver's seat. That means your support is tailored to you, flexible when life changes, and delivered by a local team who actually listens.

As a not-for-profit, every dollar goes back into the care and community services we provide. No shareholders. No head office in another state. Just a team of people who live and work in the same communities as the people we support.

Frequently asked questions

What aged care services can I get at home?

At Suncare, you can access a wide range of services in your own home, including nursing care, personal care (help with showering, dressing and grooming), domestic assistance, meal preparation, garden maintenance, transport, allied health (physiotherapy, occupational therapy, podiatry and more), assistive technology, home modifications, and social support.
The services available to you will depend on your assessed needs and funding.

How do I know if I am eligible for government-funded aged care?

If you are 65 years or older (or 50 years or older for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people), you may be eligible for government-funded support at home.

The first step is to contact My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 or visit myagedcare.gov.au to arrange an assessment.

You can also call Suncare on 1800 786 227 and we will help guide you through the process.

What is the Support at Home program?

Support at Home is the Australian Government's program for older people who need ongoing care and support to live independently at home. It replaced Home Care Packages in November 2025.

Funding is provided across eight classification levels based on your assessed needs, and you can use it to access a range of services through a provider like Suncare.

Can I choose my own services and schedule?

Yes. At Suncare, you’re always in control of your support. Together with your Care Partner, you decide which services you need and how your funding is used.

When it comes to scheduling, we’ll work with you to understand your preferences and do our best to accommodate them where possible, while balancing availability and travel across all customers.

If your needs change, we’ll adjust your plan with you.

How much will I pay for aged care services?

The amount you pay depends on your funding type and personal circumstances. Under the Support at Home program, CHSP and VHC, you may pay a contribution based on your income and assets.

Suncare also offers fee-for-service options for people who prefer to pay privately or want additional support. Contact us for a personalised quote.

Can I switch to Suncare from another provider?

Absolutely. Switching aged care providers is your right, and we make the process as smooth as possible.

Call us on 1800 786 227, and we will support you during the transition and wherever possible support in the coordination so your services continue without interruption.

Do you provide aged care services in my area?

We provide services across South East and Central Queensland, including Bundaberg, Bribie Island, Gympie, Hervey Bay, Moreton Bay, Rockhampton, and the Sunshine Coast.

If you are unsure whether we cover your area, give us a call and we will let you know.

What makes Suncare different from other aged care providers?

We are a Queensland-based, not-for-profit community organisation with over 50 years of local experience. Every dollar we receive goes back into care and community services.

We take a personal approach, matching you with a Care Partner who gets to know you and your family. And with our Heartbeat community program, we go beyond care to help people stay socially connected, active and involved.

Ready to make life a little easier?

Whether you are looking for help at home, want to stay active in your community, or need guidance navigating your funding options, we are here for you.

Give us a call on 1800 786 227, fill in our contact form, or drop into one of our community hubs. We would love to hear from you.
