How it helps

Care that keeps you at home, not in the waiting room

Nursing at home isn't just more convenient. It can make a real difference to your recovery and your peace of mind. When a nurse visits regularly, small changes get noticed early, infections get caught quickly, and your GP gets the right information at the right time.

That means fewer trips to hospital, less disruption to your routine and more energy for the parts of life that matter.

Frequently asked questions

What is in-home nursing care?

In-home nursing care is clinical care provided by a qualified nurse in your own home, rather than at a clinic or hospital.

It can include wound care, medication management, continence support, catheter and stoma care, monitoring of long-term conditions and short-term recovery support after a hospital stay.

For most older people, in-home nursing care means keeping the same routine, sleeping in your own bed and avoiding unnecessary trips to the hospital.

Are Suncare nurses qualified?

Yes. Every Suncare nurse is registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), which means they meet national standards for training, practice and ongoing professional development.

Our nurses also work closely with your GP and the rest of your support team to make sure everyone's on the same page about your care.

Do I need a referral for in-home nursing?

Not for Suncare services. If you have Support at Home funding, Restorative Care Funding, or you're paying privately, you can contact us directly and we'll arrange a nurse to come and visit.

If your nursing care is being organised as part of a hospital discharge plan, the hospital team may refer you to us directly.

How much does in-home nursing care cost?

It depends on how you're funded. Under the Support at Home program, nursing sits within the Clinical Care category, which is fully covered by your funding regardless of your financial situation.

Fee-for-service is charged at a flat hourly rate, with weekend and after-hours rates applying outside standard hours.

Our team will walk you through the costs that apply to your situation before any service starts, so there are no surprises.

How often will a nurse visit?

It depends on what you need. Some customers see a nurse once for a one-off task, like changing a wound dressing. Others have regular visits, daily, weekly or fortnightly, to keep on top of a long-term condition or recovery.

Your care plan is built around your situation, and we adjust the schedule as your needs change.

Can Suncare nurses support people with complex needs?

Yes. Our nurses are experienced in supporting people with complex clinical needs, including chronic disease management, post-surgical recovery, catheter and stoma care, and end-of-life support.

If your situation is particularly specialised, give us a call on 1800 786 227 and we'll talk through what we can offer and whether we're the right fit.

Where do Suncare nurses visit?

Our nurses visit customers across South East and Central Queensland, including Bundaberg, Gympie, Hervey Bay, Moreton Bay, Rockhampton, Sunshine Coast and Logan.

Not every service is available in every location, so the easiest thing is to give us a call and we'll confirm what's offered in your area.
