How it helps

More energy for the parts of life that matter

When the everyday tasks are looked after, you've got more energy and time for the things you actually want to be doing.

That might mean catching up with a friend, getting back into the garden, finishing the crossword, or just enjoying a quiet morning without a long list on your mind.

A tidy home is also a safer home, with fewer trip hazards and easier access to the things you use every day.

Domestic assistance FAQs

What is domestic assistance?

Domestic assistance is regular, in-home help with the household tasks that keep your home running. This typically includes cleaning, laundry, ironing, bed making, tidying and rubbish removal.

It's designed for older people and people with reduced mobility who want to keep living independently at home, but who could use a hand with the day-to-day upkeep.

What's included in Suncare's domestic assistance?

Our domestic assistance covers everyday household tasks such as vacuuming, mopping, dusting, kitchen and bathroom cleaning, laundry and ironing, bed making, light tidying, taking out the bins and a hand with light meal prep or putting the groceries away.

Your Domestic Assistant workers will check in with you at the start of each visit so you can decide together what gets the focus that day.

What's not included?

Some tasks sit outside what our domestic assistance service covers. These include heavy spring-cleaning, cleaning at height (like high windows or ceilings), moving heavy furniture, gardening or yard work, and any structural or household repairs.

If you need a hand with the garden or jobs like cleaning gutters, windows and ceiling fans, our Home and Garden Services team can help. Have a chat with us and we'll work out the right service for what you need.

How often will a support worker come?

It's up to you. Some customers have a support worker visit weekly, others fortnightly, others have a one-off visit for a particular job. We'll build a schedule around what suits your home and your funding, and adjust it if your needs change.

Will I have the same support worker each time?

Wherever possible, yes. We know it makes a real difference to have a familiar face turn up at your door, someone who knows where you keep the vacuum and how you like the linen folded. We work hard to keep the same person coming to you. If they're away, we'll let you know in advance and introduce you to whoever's covering.

How much does domestic assistance cost?

It depends on how you're funded. Under the Support at Home program, domestic assistance sits within the Everyday Living category, which may include a participant contribution based on your financial situation. CHSP services usually have a small co-payment.

Fee-for-service is charged at a flat hourly rate, with weekend and after-hours rates applying outside standard hours. Our team will walk you through the costs that apply to your situation before any service starts, so there are no surprises.

Do I need a referral?

Not for Suncare services. If you have Support at Home funding, CHSP, QCSS or you're paying privately, you can contact us directly and we'll arrange a support worker to start visiting.

If you don't yet have government funding and you'd like to look into it, we can also walk you through how to register with My Aged Care or check your eligibility for QCSS.
