What Is the Single Assessment System?

From 1 November 2025, older Australians will be assessed just once for all aged care programs under a new national system.

What’s Changing

Until now, you might have needed multiple assessments for different care programs. From 1 November 2025, there will be one national assessment covering all aged care needs — called the **Single Assessment System**.

How It Works

You’ll meet with a trained assessor who will discuss your health, lifestyle and goals.
They’ll use the  Integrated Assessment Tool (IAT) to match you to the right level of care — from home support to short‑term restorative or residential care.

The Benefits

  • Less confusion: no need for repeated assessments
  • More flexibility: your care can adjust as your needs change
  • Faster support:better connection between assessments and services
  • Fairer access:  everyone uses the same national process
