Workforce Requirements for Associated Providers
Keeping customers safe starts with the right people. This article covers screening, qualifications, and compliance for your workforce.
To ensure the safety and wellbeing of older people, all workers in aged care must meet strict screening and qualification requirements.
Screening requirements:
- Police certificate: All staff must have a police certificate issued by an authorised agency, no more than three years old, and with no precluding offences (such as murder or sexual assault).
- NDIS Worker Screening Clearance: Alternatively, a valid and current NDIS Worker Screening Clearance is acceptable.
- Statutory declaration: If a worker has lived overseas after turning 16, they must provide a statutory declaration stating they have never been convicted of murder, sexual assault, or any other assault resulting in imprisonment.
- Banning orders: Providers must check the Aged Care and NDIS banning registers before employing staff, and must not employ anyone subject to a banning order.
Ongoing compliance:
- Keep up-to-date records of all staff qualifications, police checks, and professional registrations.
- Ensure staff notify you immediately if they become subject to a banning order or lose a required clearance.
By following these requirements, you help protect customers and maintain public confidence in the quality and safety of aged care services.
