What does a day in the life of a Suncare physiotherapist look like?

Suncare Community Services Hydrotherapy Class

When it comes to Suncare’s physiotherapy services, there is a lot more to it than meets the eye. With a team of 11 dedicated physiotherapists across Queensland, we spoke with Sunshine Coast-based clinician Amy, to see what a day in the life of a Suncare physiotherapist involves.

For Amy and the team, their typical working day offers plenty of variety. Between in-home consultations and group exercises classes, our physiotherapists are always busy helping our customers maintain an independent lifestyle.

Visiting about four customers per day, Amy said helping people to manage and reduce their long-term or chronic pain was a major focus. Quite often, this is achieved through tailored exercise programs.

Another key area for our physiotherapists is planning and delivering exercise classes. From hydrotherapy and Tai Chi to strength and conditioning, Suncare physiotherapists usually run one to two of these classes each day. Engaging with these participants regularly, Amy spoke of the enjoyment she gets from helping customers maintain a good level of health and fitness.

Within these busy schedules, Amy said Suncare physiotherapists are often organising future customer bookings, writing exercise programs and arranging walking aids.

Community physiotherapists need to be able to treat a variety of conditions from injury-management to helping clients both pre- and post-surgery. Suncare physiotherapists also provide rehabilitation for those who have suffered neurological events, such as a stroke

For Amy, the role provides both flexibility and a healthy work-life balance. Although she conducts customer visits solo, Amy works closely with Suncare’s Allied Health Assistants, Occupational Therapists, Nurses, and Case Managers to ensure the best outcomes for customers.
