Suncare Digital Program

Being socially connected with friends and family is important and using technology and apps such as FaceTime, Zoom or Skype is commonplace for many of us who are separated by distance.

 

But many older members of our community, often those who could most benefit from connecting digitally, do not have the equipment or knowledge to do so.

The Suncare Digital Program is helping to keep customers connected digitally, by teaching new technical skills and providing iPads and access to the internet.

The program is not only about digital connection with friends and family, but also about connecting with everyday services too. Increasingly, services available to older Australians such as online shopping, banking, health and Government services, require an email address or ability to visit a website.

One of the key advantages of Suncare’s Digital Program is that training and assistance can be provided at home. We know that many of our customers are not confident using technology and our resources and training approach accommodates this.

Dorothy’s Story

Suncare helped Dorothy Bennett to purchase an iPad through her Home Care Package to avoid social isolation from her family who live interstate.

Dorothy’s Care Coordinator also helped her with training so she could make video calls to her family. Dorothy was overwhelmed with emotion and joy when she first saw her loved ones online.

Joy’s Story

Suncare customer, Joy Alexander, participated in the Suncare Digital Program and is empowered by her new-found digital confidence.

I had never used an iPad before and didn’t know what questions to ask or be embarrassed with my lack of understanding.

This program has changed my life! Now I am Face Timing my family and online shopping.”

Suncare’s Digital Program provides step-by-step learning activities and information including Quick Start Guides designed to make becoming digitally connected easy.
