Congratulations and happy birthday to Suncare’s 100+ Club customers who recently achieved their 100+ year milestone.
In this article we recognise and share some highlights and life achievements from three of our customers who joined our 100+ Club in the second quarter of 2022.
Jack
Dutch born Jack turned 103 in April. His rich life experiences include working as a ship builder on the MS Oranje, a passenger liner used as a war time hospital ship, and competing in the Elfstedentocht, a 200km endurance ice skating race on Holland’s frozen lakes. This year’s birthday celebrations were special but a little more restrained than his 100th birthday which included a ride in a glider!
Ossie
Ossie’s 100th birthday was celebrated in April with family in the home where he has lived for 54 years. The day involved reminiscing about his life achievements which included his impressive army career. Ossie was only 17 when he took his horse Bonnie and joined the AIF 2nd Lighthorse. Later attached to 2/16th Battalion, he bravely fought the Japanese up and down the Track, at Milne Bay, Gona, Buna and Sanananda. A veteran of the battles for Shaggy Ridge and the Ramu Valley, Ossie left the army in 1947 to marry, raise four children and become a Bridge Carpenter.
Bill
World War II Navy veteran Bill served over seven years as a wireless operator, responsible for coding throughout the Coral Sea, Burma, Japan and Europe. Bill claims his 100th birthday in June was “just another day.” But his friends thought otherwise as they celebrated with lunch at the Golf Club. Bill attributes being “100 years young” to a positive attitude, enjoying a beer and staying busy.
