Customer care – The heart of Suncare Nursing

Customer care - The heart of Suncare Nursing.

Away from the hustle, bustle and business of hospital nursing, Leonie King explains what she loves about community nursing with Suncare.

Having worked as a nurse for 14 years, Leonie, who has recently joined Suncare, describes the organisation as feeling ‘like home.’

For Leonie, the most important part of what she and Suncare’s nursing team does is advocating for and on their customers’ behalf, making sure all their needs are covered. This often involves setting up referrals for specialist treatment to ensure customers receive the highest quality care.

When first accessing our nursing services, Leonie said customers are given a full “head-to-toe” nursing assessment, which usually takes about two hours and can be done in their home.

From there, nursing visits can be as frequent as once a week or every few months, depending on the person’s needs.

In what Leonie describes as a “really beautiful way to spend your working day,” she and the nursing team offer a range of services including:

  • Clinical monitoring – keeping track of how a certain treatment or approach is affecting a client
  • Diabetes management
  • Continence management
  • Skin integrity reviews – Assessing and addressing any broken, torn or damaged skin
  • Wound care

To ensure Suncare customers receive the best treatment, Leonie said customers are first referred by our wonderful Case Coordinators. Once a customer’s care plan is underway, our nurses then liaise with other specialists, general practitioners, diabetic educators and nurse practitioners as required. Do you think you might benefit from a nursing assessment? Contact your Care Coordinator to get started.
