Charles takes up the iPad, aged 101

Former World War II veteran Charles Richardson now feels confident to use smart tablets - at the age of 101.

“Now that I have seen these iPads, I might get back into computers,” he said after yesterday’s Digital Ambassadors workshop in Kilkivan.

About 20 people aged over 60 came from Nanango, Goomeri and Kilkivan to attend the region’s first Digital Ambassadors program hosted by Suncare Community Services and Telstra.

Suncare Community Engagement Manager Graeme Baxter said six Telstra Ambassadors provided hands on help with using tablets and smart phones, showing the group how to use Google, games, emails and transferring photos from a mobile to a computer.

“We have partnered with Telstra to increase our digital engagement with communities by introducing older adults to the constantly changing environment of the internet and smart devices.

“We have a shared concern with Telstra to ensure this digital technology is introduced in an empowering and safe way to enhance the digital lives of our clients and local communities,” Mr Baxter said.
